NEW DEMAND JUSTICE AD SPOTLIGHTS CONSERVATIVES’ CRITICISM OF SUPREME COURT NOMINEE KAVANAUGH AS ‘SWAMP PICK’
New Ad — Set To Air in West Virginia, Indiana and North Dakota — Highlights GOP’s Discomfort with Kavanaugh’s Ties to Washington Establishment
WASHINGTON, DC—Demand Justice released a new TV and digital ad Thursday invoking conservatives’ criticisms of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh as a product of the Washington elite.
The 30-second spot, which will run in North Dakota, Indiana and West Virginia, introduces Brett Kavanaugh as “the son of a Washington lobbyist” who has sided with special interests as a judge. It flashes a photo of Kavanaugh’s Washington-area country club that, according to the Washington Post, charges an initiation fee of $92,000.
The ad features clips of conservative personalities Ben Shapiro, former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum and Judge Andrew Napolitano denouncing Kavanaugh as a Washington insider, hinting that President Trump’s nomination of Kavanaugh contradicts his promise to “drain the swamp.”
The ad urges viewers to call upon their senators to oppose Kavanaugh. The spot, entitled “Swamp,” is the latest part of Demand Justice’s campaign in opposition to Kavanaugh.
A transcript of the West Virginia ad appears below.
TRANSCRIPT OF “SWAMP”
VOICEOVER: Meet Brett Kavanaugh. Son of a Washington lobbyist. As a judge, ruled for special interests. Lives the high life in Washington.
No wonder conservatives are upset.
CLIP OF SEN. RICK SANTORUM: “A lot of the folks in the base were really sort of turned off to Brett Kavanaugh. He is from Washington. He is the establishment pick.”
CLIP OF BEN SHAPIRO: “I’ve got a lot of problems with Kavanaugh in general. He’s kind of the DC insider pick.”
CLIP OF JUDGE NAPOLITANO: “This person is at the heart and soul of the DC establishment.” FOX HOST: You’re saying it’s a swamp pick? NAPOLITANO: “Yes.”
VOICEOVER: These Republicans have it right: we don’t need a DC insider like Brett Kavanaugh for Supreme Court.
Tell Senator Manchin: Oppose Kavanaugh for Supreme Court.
