FOLLOWING CONFIRMATION OF NANCY ABUDU, NEW PRINT AD THANKS SCHUMER FOR ADVANCING CIVIL RIGHTS LAWYERS TO FEDERAL BENCH

Demand Justice joins ACLU, NAACP LDF and SPLC in sponsoring ad as Senate tees up vote on yet another top civil rights lawyer, Dale Ho

WASHINGTON, DC—A new ad appeared in Politico’s print edition Tuesday thanking Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for his leadership as Senate Democrats confirm civil rights lawyers to the federal bench. Demand Justice sponsored the ad alongside American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF), and the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The ad specifically congratulates Schumer on the confirmation of Judge Nancy Abudu to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Abudu, a former voting rights lawyer for the ACLU and SPLC, made history as the first Black woman on the court and the only civil rights lawyer currently on the court. This week, the Senate is expected to consider the nomination of Dale Ho, Director of the ACLU Voting Rights Project, who was recommended by Leader Schumer to be a district judge on the Southern District of New York.
