IN FULL-PAGE IOWA NEWSPAPER AD, DEMAND JUSTICE URGES 2020 CONTENDERS TO BLOCK ANY MORE DEALS ON TRUMP JUDGES
Ad Ran in Today’s Des Moines Register As Democratic Leaders Signal No Deal At Hand
WASHINGTON, DC—On Thursday, Demand Justice took out a full-page ad in the Des Moines Register urging Senate Democrats who are considering presidential bids to block any deals to fast-track Donald Trump’s nominees to the federal bench.
The ad comes a day after Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer signaled that a year-end deal on Trump judges was unlikely, though Senate Republicans said they were still holding out hope Schumer could be swayed.
“We are glad to see Democrats are showing resolve and plan to reject any year-end deal to confirm more of Trump’s radical judges. That is major progress,” said Brian Fallon, Executive Director of Demand Justice. “As the presidential nominating process gets underway next year, we hope the candidates will lay out bold plans for confronting Donald Trump’s takeover of the judiciary and reforming the Supreme Court.”
The Demand Justice ad highlights last week’s ruling by a federal judge in Texas, who sided with the Trump administration in ruling the Affordable Care Act unconstitutional. The ad stresses that confirming more of Trump’s judges only further endangers the health care law and other key priorities.
