DEMAND JUSTICE DIGITAL AD CALLS OUT TRUMP NOMINEE FARR FOR TIES TO RACIST CAUSES
Senate GOP Has Lined Up Vote on Controversial Judicial Selection For Week After Thanksgiving
WASHINGTON, DC—Demand Justice announced Monday it is running a digital ad opposing North Carolina lawyer Thomas Farr’s nomination to the federal bench based on his ties to racist causes and organizations.
The 30-second spot highlights Farr’s work in support of a North Carolina voting law that was struck down for unfairly targeting African-Americans. The controversial Farr has also generated intense opposition from civil rights groups due to his role in voter intimidation schemes carried out by the campaign of former Sen. Jesse Helms (R-NC) in 1990.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell moved to proceed with Farr’s nomination late last week, setting up a potential test vote for the week after Thanksgiving. With Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ) pledging to oppose all of Trump’s judicial nominees until a vote is allowed on legislation to protect Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, Democrats only need one more vote against Farr in order to block his confirmation.
A transcript of the ad appears below.
VOICEOVER: Under Donald Trump, hate is on the march. Now Trump wants to make Thomas Farr a federal judge.
Civil rights leaders call Farr “an advocate for…segregationist causes.”
Farr helped draft a voting law that a federal court said “targeted African Americans with almost surgical precision.”
Farr even gave a speech in honor of the director of a hate group that funded studies claiming blacks are genetically inferior to whites.
Call your senator and tell them to stand up to hate. Vote “no” on Thomas Farr.
